Be Brave Like the Woman, Be Open Like Jesus

A Story of Incredible Bravery

I want to tell you a story about someone who was incredibly brave. She doesn't have a name in the Bible, but she does something so important that people have been talking about her for 2,000 years.

Imagine you're trying to talk to someone important — maybe a teacher, a coach, or a leader — and they walk right past you. You call out again, and they still don't answer. Most of us would probably feel embarrassed or hurt or want to give up.

But this woman doesn't give up.

She's a mum, and her daughter is very sick. She's from a different culture than Jesus and his friends. And back then, people often didn't treat people from other cultures very well. Some people even thought people from other cultures were less than them. But that's not how God sees people — it was, however, how many people saw each other and behaved.

A Mother Who Wouldn't Be Silenced

So this mum calls out to Jesus for help. At first, Jesus doesn't answer. His friends tell him to send her away. They think she doesn't belong. They think she should not be bothering him.

But she keeps going. She kneels down right in front of Jesus and says, "Please help me."

And Jesus says something that seems really harsh. He says, "My work is for my own people first, not for you."

Now, if that were you or me, we might get upset. We might get angry. We might run away or give up. But this woman is strong. She's clever, and she's brave. She says:

"Even the dogs get the crumbs from the master's table."

In other words, there is enough goodness in God for everyone — even me.

And here's the amazing part. Jesus listens, learns, and changes. He says, "You have great faith." And her daughter is healed.

What This Means for Us Today

So what does this mean for us? I can think of three things, and they're for everyone of every age.

1. God's Love Is for Everyone

It's not just for people who look like us, who think like us, or who fit in easily. God's love is for everyone.

2. Your Voice Matters

Sometimes, like the woman in our story, the bravest thing we can do is speak up. This woman shows us that even when you feel small or different or ignored, your voice matters. God hears you, and your courage can help other people learn and grow.

3. Listening Can Change Us

Jesus shows us that being strong doesn't mean being stubborn. Nobody knows everything — even Jesus. Being loving means being willing to hear someone else's story and let it change you and change your actions.

An Invitation with No Exceptions

So remember: be brave like the woman, be open like Jesus, and remember that God's love is big enough for everyone. Everyone is invited — no exceptions.

May we be people who make room, who listen deeply, and who never give up on love.
